Carinium

Carinium is a fresh force in the alternative Rock/Metal scene, originating from the vibrant Chicagoland area in Illinois, USA. Formed in early 2024, this four-piece ensemble brings together James Sojor on vocals, Malon Repollo handling guitars, keyboard, and samples, Ringo Tabaloc on bass, and Don Santarinala behind the drums. United by their diverse influences, Carinium shares a common goal: to craft and perform original Filipino music (OPM) that blends tight harmonies, melodic choruses, and electronic synth elements. Their repertoire includes both Filipino and English songs, characterized by a distinctively heavy sound yet filled with relatable emotions and messages.

James Sojor, a prominent figure in the Chicagoland Filipino music scene, contributes significantly to Carinium while also performing with his band Hopia and undertaking hosting and production roles at major Filipino concerts. Having opened for renowned OPM acts like Kamikazee and Bamboo, James brings his experience, social media savvy, and song production skills to Carinium, further defining the band’s unique sound. Malon Repollo, an independent songwriter and music producer, collaborates closely with James, his longtime friend, to lay down the foundational melodies and vocals for Carinium. Their shared love for rock, metal, and alternative music has been instrumental in shaping the band’s sonic identity. Ringo Tabaloc, known for his previous work with local rock cover group The Otherside and as a DJ for Filipino community events, adds depth with his bass playing, enriching Carinium’s musical texture. Don Santarinala’s extensive experience with the Filipino pop-punk band Concrete Sam and later with Hopia as a drummer, brings a seasoned rhythm to Carinium, completing the band’s dynamic lineup.

As Carinium gears up for their live debut, they’re focused on producing original songs for an upcoming demo EP slated for release in 2024. Their debut single “Ang Pangako,” released on March 15, 2024, has already started making waves online and on Philippine radio, signaling Carinium’s promising start and their ambition to connect with their Filipino roots while expanding their reach globally.
